Princess Cruise Lines Transforms Guest Experiences and Operational Excellence with ATLAS and IOSEA's SEAgnal Platform
Princess Cruise Lines, operating one of the world's largest cruise ship fleets serving millions of guests annually, faced a critical challenge: maintaining operational efficiency and delivering exceptional guest experiences across massive vessels while tracking thousands of moving assets in real-time. The company implemented a collaborative solution, combining IOSEA patented SEAgnal platform with IOSEA's and Renesas' ATLAS (Asset and Location Tracking at Scale) technology, to establish enterprise-grade location intelligence across their fleet. This integrated approach leverages IOSEA's advanced software-defined location-sensing technology with Renesas' wireless connectivity infrastructure to deliver precise, scalable real-time positioning in demanding maritime environments.
The partnership enabled Princess to solve critical operational pain points, enhance safety protocols, and deliver the personalized guest experiences that define their brand promise. The co-developed ATLAS along with IOSEA’s SEAgnal architecture represents a breakthrough in how modern enterprises achieve location intelligence at scale. While IOSEA contributes sophisticated digital signal processing algorithms and software-defined positioning capabilities, Renesas provides the underlying wireless hardware, connectivity standards, and hardware-software integration necessary for enterprise deployment across complex, metal-hulled environments where traditional location systems fail. Together, these complementary technologies created a solution specifically engineered for the cruise industry's unique challenges—delivering accurate indoor positioning aboard vessels where metal structures, saltwater environments, and electromagnetic interference create technical obstacles that conventional systems cannot overcome. This collaboration between IOSEA's software-defined positioning intelligence and Renesas' wireless expertise demonstrates how enterprise location solutions require both sophisticated algorithmic innovation and proven hardware platforms working in seamless harmony.

The technical architecture deployed aboard Princess vessels combines thousands distributed BLE locators positioned throughout the ships with Renesas wireless connectivity hardware and the cloud-native SEAgnal backend platform. The platform's microservices architecture enables flexible deployment—running partially at the edge for low-latency decisions and connecting to cloud systems for advanced analytics and historical tracking. This hybrid approach proved critical for cruise operations, where network connectivity to shore varies significantly depending on vessel location and where real-time local decision-making often cannot wait for cloud processing.
SEAgnal's open API architecture allowed seamless integration with Princess's existing operational systems without requiring complete infrastructure replacement. The platform ingests data from hundreds of locators and applies advanced location algorithms to transform raw BLE signals into actionable spatial intelligence. For Princess, this meant the ability to track guest movements, crew positioning, and critical assets with centimeter-level accuracy in key operational areas, while providing broader awareness across the entire vessel through its sophisticated position calculation capabilities. These capabilities align well with the recently launched “Princess Purpose” initiative designed to bring new levels of personalization and service to passengers.
